ANGEL AND DEBBIE FIGUEROA

WEST COAST SWING WORLD CLASS WORKSHOP APRIL 20, 21, 22, 2007

ANGEL AND DEBBIE FIGUEROA have received national acclaim for their performances, choreography, and dance instruction

Angel's choreography and dancing have been seen on film, video, television, in print and on stage. He holds over 30 titles in American Style Rhythm, and has represented the United States at the World Cup in Switzerland. Angel is also the 1998 ASDC, 1997 SOS Grand National, and the 1996 U.S. Open Cabaret Champion.

Debbie is the 2000 Professional Classic Two-Step World Champion. She holds 9 professional country and western titles and is a regular in Invitational Jack and Jill competitions across the country. She also has 2 Hustle titles to her credit. Most recently, she won the Strictly Swing Division at America's Classic.

TOGETHER: They have been competing on the west coast swing circuit together since 1999. They have many first places spanning from 2000-2004 in both the Showcase and Classic Divisions at NASDE events including the USA Grand Nationals, NADC, Swingtime in the Rockies, Swing Fling, Dallas Dance, and Boogie By The Bay. They have both won many Jack and Jill competitions including the Phoenix Champion of Champions. They also have many Strictly Swing titles at national competitions to their credit. In 2005, Angel and Debbie competed in the Classic division and continued to place in the top 5 even though Debbie was pregnant with their first child! Antonio was born on Dec. 17, 2005 and is bringing so much joy to their lives! Currently, Angel and Debbie live and teach in Austin, Texas, and continue to teach, judge, perform and compete at events all over the world.

Angel & Debbie will focus on styling, technique and playing with the music. They will concentrate their instruction on mastery of patterns and shines rather than just their completion.

Please Note: This workshop is geared to the intermediate dancer level. (Participants need to have command of the basics of West Coast Swing, including: sugar push, inside and outside turn variations and whip turns).

Friday

8:00–9:00 West Coast Swing: Basics and Beyond: Technique, connection, and bodywork. Learn how to do your basics well, how to make them look good, and how to make a basic not look like a basic.

9:15–10:15 Swing Connection. He Can’t Lead/She Won’t Follow.

1:00-2:00 Moves You Don’t Know. Moves You Don't Know

2:15-3:15 Damn You’re Good! Adding style and flair to your dancing.

3:30-4:30 Spinning Patterns Made Easy.

12:00-1:00 West Coast Swing: Leadable Syncopations in WCS: This is where you can have fun with your leadable swing patterns.

1:15-2:15 West Coast Swing: Angel and Debbie's Favourites. Angel and Debbie will finish off the weekend with a bang by teaching their personal favourites.

Private Lessons

To schedule a private lesson please contact the Registrar. Private lessons will only be available to workshop participants. Private lessons will each be 50 minutes in length and cost $75 USD. Payment is to be made directly to the teachers in cash, U.S. dollars only.

Our Location

We will be holding this event in Hall ‘A’ (the main ball room) at the Lithuanian House, 1573 Bloor St. West in Toronto.

Directions: From Upstate New York

(Don’t forget proof of U.S. Residency) Interstates 90 to 290 to 190. Cross the border on the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge. Take 405 N to Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) Toronto-bound. Follow directions in next paragraph.

NOTE: U.S. citizens travelling by air will require passports for cross-border travel.


From the West:

Take the QEW to the Gardner Expressway and exit at Lakeshore Blvd. Warning: Slow down! This area is frequently patrolled by Toronto Police, using radar and laser traps. Exit Lakeshore Blvd. left at Parkside Drive. Go north on Parkside to Bloor St. Drive east on Bloor St. to 1573 at Alhambra Ave.

From the East:






Take 401 to Don Valley Parkway to the Gardiner Expressway to Lakeshore Blvd. Take Lakeshore west to Parkside Dr. Go north on Parkside to Bloor St. Drive east on Bloor St. to 1573 at Alhambra Ave.



By TTC (public transit)

Take the Subway to Dundas West station and walk one block west on Bloor St OR, take the subway to Keele station. Walk south on Keele to Bloor St. and then east on Bloor to 1573.

Parking

Please note that on-street parking in the area is very limited, especially during the daytime. Lithuanian House has its own parking lot located 50 yards north of Bloor St. on Dorval Rd. but capacity is limited.

For local participants we strongly recommend using the TTC option if at all possible.

TSDS will not accept responsibility for parking tags.
